Heater Temperature Control

Went to turn on the defroster this AM and NOTHING! I think the cable broke or something on the center temp-control ****. Before I pulled the dash off or something, can someone steer me to an easier solution as to where the cable connects? I assume it's just one of those push-pull kind of metal-encased cables? Can I get to it under the hood? I couldn't see where it came from OR where it went (raining/blowing like crazy here).

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if the 92 heater works the same way or not, but the defrost/heater/vent selector is vacuum operated.

The temp control is a cable to the blend door in the heater box behind the glove box.

Engine coolant circulates through the heater core constantly.
So the blend door regulates the temp by changing where the air is drawn from.

Yea, I think they're the same; the controls all look the same anyway. Thanks for the glove box location; that was what I was looking for...

Seems the last one of these that I worked on, that blend door was located in the housing out on the firewall, but I think that was a 58 Ford P/U.

On mine if I remember right the blend door is to the right of the heater core and can be seen through the opening when you change the heater core.

Remove the glove box door and the box.
That lets you see what you are working on so you can find the 5/16" head bolts that join the two parts of the housing, 4 or 5 from memory.

Something may have fallen down through the defrost vent and have the door jambed, or the hinge could have failed.
Then again it may be something as simple as the control wire slipped off the door arm.

Good luck on your adventure under the dash.
