I have an automatic 94 Ford Ranger 3.0 with about 177,000 miles. I just bought it and it ran good for about 2 months. Today I went to go start my truck and when I turn the key.... nothing. After a quick inspection I see that the shift lickage where the shift cable attaches to the arm from the column near the firewall is detached. I tried to reattach it but it won't stay. It seems like someone jerryrigged it before with jb weld. The cable is not broke because I can manually shift gears by pulling and pushing the cable. It seems like over the years the bracket on the cable has worn and wont stay tight.
My question is would I be able to swap a bushing or something small like that or do I need to change out the whole cable? And if so how do i install the cable?

Welcome to FTE
Just below where the cable attaches to the arm on the steering column is the "transmission shift control cable bracket."
This bracket is not part of the cable, was only furnished by itself.
F3TZ-7B229-B .. Transmission Shift Control Cable Bracket / Obsolete
Applications: 1993/94: Explorer 4.0L & Ranger (all engines).
A previous owner mickey-moused it, probably because: No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Is there any chance that the clip at the end of the shift cable is replaceable? or would i have to buy the whole cable? If it is the cable, is it an easy install? Thanks for your help

I don't see a separate clip in this location, but I'm using the 1990/2001 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog on original microfiche slides.
Not the easiest to use because the slides are washed out and scratchy, so it's difficult to make out some details.
Suggest you visit a local dealer and look in their parts catalog.
The cable is: F3TZ-7E395-A .. has the sameapplications as the bracket and is available from Ford, but you may not need it. You need to look at the parts catalog illustration...first.
If you do need it, buy it from this FTE sponsor and save some buckaroo's:
MSRP: $87.58 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $57.81 / Tousley Ford = White Bear Lake MN
Ok thank you very much. I will visit my local dealer tomorrow and hopefully i can find out if it is the cable or the piece it attaches too near the column.
