Okay, I've got most of the dirt, grime and that gooey floor leveler stuff off the floor and firewall and I'm looking at finsihing options. I'm thinking about using Herculiner roll on bed liner to finish the floor and the firewall to hopefully prevent any future rust. Has anyone tried this? My only concern might be fumes given off by the stuff if I use it inside the cab.
I've not used that stuff but did paint the whole inside of the cab with POR-15 which is supposed to be pretty good rust prevention. You've got to remember to protect the rust coming from under the cab-or outside in too.
I also painted the firewall and floor inside and underneath the cab floor with POR-15. There were some fumes initially but none residually. It's great stuff.
I used Herculiner on my bed. It is good stuff. I plan on using it for the underside of the hood, fenders, and running boards as well as the cab floor underside. I like it for the waterproofing, stone resistance and that it adds weight to the panel to help sound deadening.
It dries pretty fast (2-3 hours) and while the initial odor is pretty strong, there is no odor after it cures. Do at least two coats to seal the surface well. I used a sponge brush to cut in the corners first, then the supplied roller for the large surfaces. Wear gloves. It is hard to get off your skin. Looks great and is very tough.
I used the Dupli color bedcoating (Walmart carries it). It's similar to the stuff that Randy used, but not as coarse or rubbery. The Herculiner really seals well and sound deadens the floor and firewall. You can also use the aerosol can (3m) for undercoating. Yes, it does have a strong smell, so I advise using a mask and spraying it outside with the doors open.
Thanks for the responses. I think I'll give the Herculiner a try. It's not cheap, but if it helps keep my floor from rusting it's worth the cost. A little extra sound deadening won't hurt either.
