1996 4.9 OBDII timing???
ok i can see the marks now on the passanger side but what do i line them up with? this truck has that misfire sensor right there which i hear is rare. theres no saw blade looking thing bolted to the cover...

I think the saw blade looking thing is bolted on the drivers side and you should have one.

your not supposed to use that from what i've been told and the marks dont even come close to it....this truck is driving me crazy!!!

Did you unplug the SPOUT connector before trying to set timing? With it plugged in the computer will mess with it when you try to set it.

i unplugged the spout connector, nuttheres nothing to line the mark on the balancer up with

Does your point and Crankshaft position sensor look like this?
If so that is the pointer. The degree numbers are etched on the balancer.

thanks a bunch! mine looks like that except the pointer there. i guess someone removed it. ill try going to ford for a new one cause i havent seen and setups like this in the junk yard.

it would have been helpful in one of your threads on this same subject if a pic of your truck motor was included.
would have been easier to help you.

I do not think that is a photo of a 4.9L (300 cu in) engine.
Looks like a V8 to me.

not sure but thats what the sensor on mine looks like and theres no timing pointer at all. why someone would remove it is beyond me.

hey guys, i'm missing this same cover piece too for the sensor, trying to check my timing and realized that i'm supposed to have this thing and i don't. does anybody have a part number for it? i've looked on RockAuto for timing parts and for crank position sensor parts to no avail. thanks in advance for your help.
