Just bought an 05 f-150 lariat supercrew 4x4. I've noticed that the backup sensors are not working all the time. I have not heard them while backing up in a parking lot yet, but when I was backing a trailer they worked, any ideas?
-check that they are clean & all make a clicking noise when in reverse.
-get a friend you trust to put it in reverse & then put your ear to each sensor; silent one(s) are bad;
-use small screwdriver and pry open the plug on back; careful not to break locking tab;
-confirm part number with your dealer, and search EBAY; these are available surplus for a fraction of the dealer cost ;probably same part number as for '06; NEW Ford Reverse Backup Parking Sensor Alert/Assist on eBay.ca (item 110423471270 end time 09-Nov-09 15:17:26 EST)
-good luck
I have the same problem on a 2000 Excursion. Ended up breaking the tab on the wire connector. A replacement is no longer available for that year. Any ideas where I can find a replacement connector?
Mine failed me once when I was backing out of a driveway and clipped a parked car. I was moving a washer & dryer in the bed and was relying on them and they didnt go off. It was a cold november day last year, and I never did figure out why they failed. But there has been a few time I noticed them not going off
