i doubt if one of those wires was broke it would cause this problem. if one of the injector wires breaks the truck will run, but it will run really bad, rough, miss out, whatever you wanna call it. the computer in the firewall that slides in behind the parking brake is the PCM and the one on the fender is the IDM, btw if you were wondering.

did you check those pins on the PCM and plug???? how bout the gasket on that plug allowing water past and into the plug? i'm wondering if it may be the IDM(injector drive module) on the fender that is your problem. if the tach moves your PCM is not going to be burned up..

I'm not sure where to get one off the top of my head, but i will search for you. i would honestly check all those pins and connections and for water like the duck advised before going to the IDM.

here is a link to an IDM. it has been modified to provide 140v instead of the factory 100v and its not too terribly expensive either if you got an IDM to send him first. it will be good to pick up a few hp and some throttle response i'm sure. Okay we need to stop and step back for a second....for my piece of mind. Bone, bare with me on this one. I'm not trying to be an ***, I just need clarification.

I asked you is it "IN" the firewall or "ON" the fender.......

You answered it's "ON" the firewall.

There is no PCM, or IDM mounted "ON" the fire wall.

So I ask again, did you remove 4-8mm bolts and one harness connector to remove it?

OR

Did you loosen 1-10mm bolt and 1 harness connector and slide it "OUT" of the firewall?

Next, if a shop is telling you it might be valvecover connectors, that has nothing to do with the PCM "IN" the firewall, but has everything to do with the IDM "ON" the fender.

Does the truck barely run and knock like all hell, or does it not run at all?

If it DOES run, but very crappy like and knocking this is an IDM problem caused by burnt Valve cover connecotor pins, or harness'.

To answer your question, the valve cover connectors are on the top side of the valvecovers.....meaning closest to the engine valley. There are 2 connectors per valve cover. There are 5 pins in each. The outter 2 pins are Glow Plug pins. These are the ones that typically melt causing this issue.

You can replace the ends on the harness, as well as the valve covers, and under valve cover harness'.

So to start, you just need to pull each of these connectors and inspect each closely. You can do this without removing anything except maybe the motor cover if you still have it.

Again, I'm sorry man, I just need some clarification so I can try to understand what's going on. My "guess" is you've got burnt pins at the vc's and it's an IDM that you replaced. I say that because I've done the same thing. Truck ran bad, I fixed a few burnt pins, replaced the IDM, It ran fine for a few days, Then BAM!!!! back to running like crap. It was ALL due to burnt wires above the valve cover connectors that I didn't catch.

So again, forgive me for being forward, I'm just having a hard time understanding what's happening here with the answers given. And please be patient, I know we will get this figured out.
