I replaced the fuel pump in my truck about a year ago, and just the last month or so have had some issues. I noticed it was dripping fuel, have cleaned the valley and inspected it and was unable to pinpoint the leak. also when driving at low RPM(1500ish) when I gradually accelerate it kinda hesitates and shimmys, but when I romp on the throttle it clears up. could this be a fueling issue related to the leak? oh and how do I know if my block heater is working?
Thanks in advance
If your sure the fuel is coming from the pump there are 2 possibilities, First try tightening the clamos a little more. Youd be surprised how often that will fix the leaks. Second option your pump is dying already (it happens) and its leaking out of the weep hole on the bottom of the pump. The effect of the fuel leak will cause problem with sucking air. So Id look into those.
sorry typo the hose clamps there are 3 hoses on the fuel pump, and both end of them are held with standard hose clamps out of the 6 total only 5 are potentially accessible with the filter housing in the motor.
if it's not the clamps, and I end up replacing the fuel pump again, I think I'll end up takin the turbo off this time and replace the o-rings between the turbo and the pedistal since they're leaking. if I have to do this, is there anything else I should replace while I got it all tore apart?
If you go that route you outta do a real thorough inspection of the turbo while its off and depending on how old it is or what it looks like maybe rebuild it, or atleast change the uppipe donut. Or concider looking into an electric fuel setup. Eliminate the mechanical fuel pump, and filter housing and go to an electris frame rail mount pump and filters. Its a good upgrade over stock. It'll do a better job of driving upgrades including the stage 1's youve got planned. You can find some setups on ebay for around $500. And if you want stuff to do while in that area throw in a HPX from Dale at tymar that'll make it a little better too.
those stage ones won't be coming for a while. I'm a a college man on a tight budget, and the fuel pump I will be replacing is covered under warranty, so the upgrade to electric is unfortunately out of the question for now. My truck is my only vehicle, so I plan on doing this all in one very long day. I will deffinately put the up pipe donut on though. As for the turbo, I'll cross my fingers and pray that it's fine, if not I'll be walkin to work. Don't have the money for that right now.

Actually rebuilding the turbo isnt too bad you can get the the rebuild guts for pretty cheap from ebay or a reputable turbo shop. other wise the only thing Id do is clean everything in the valley real good while youve got everything out so you can see if anything new developes, maybe paint stuff so it looks good.
