Dear IH and Ford Engineers

Thank you so much for putting brittle zip ties under the valve covers to hold the injector and glow plug wires in place. I'm so glad that it never occurred to you that heat might have an effect on the plastic, and that the slightest touch (or just the mere fact that I might breathe on them) would break the zip ties off and into the engine. I am comforted at the thought that some random piece of plastic that I could not locate is now floating around in my engine somewhere, and at this point I can only pray that it didn't land somewhere that might cause major problems. Please know that I sincerely appreciate your engineering efforts on this engine, and enjoy reverse-engineering every single thing you've done to this truck in order to make it run correctly.

P.S. I'm glad I worked on my truck this weekend, as I found 2 things that would have left me stranded on the side of the road very soon.

LOL!

Every time I see a stock truck with the radiator hose running THROUGH the serpentine belt, I scratch my head and wonder if the lead engineer smoked crack...

Hah! That was another thing I had to "correct" this weekend too.

My radiator hose now runs AROUND the belt, and not THROUGH it.

Talk about ungrateful.

It's all a matter of perspective Curtis. You sit and complain about brittle zip ties while the early 99's didn't have enough zip ties and the glow plug wires shorted out from rubbing on the pushrods. Meanwhile the 6.4 guys are wishing they could even see their valve covers without having to remove the cab first (8 hours of labor R&R from what I hear).

I think I'd rather worry about a little piece of heat worn plastic than have to remove the cab to change a glow plug.

I dropped the small o-ring down the big hole when I had my turbo pedistal off. Been a while and no effect yet.

I almost had a heart attack when I was putting my injectors in -- almost dropped a bolt down the push rod hole.

Thank God for quick fingers and a magnetic pick-up tool...

There's a whole lot more than just plastic zip ties in a moronic spot you can thank them for.

There worst engineering job IMO is the UVCH connections. But they did save 50 cents per engine, and then come out with a $13.95 fix-it kit.

A man better be thankful they still had a few braincells left when they did the 7.3s because they lost them on the 6.0s and 6.4s I just scratch my head on the 6.4s when looking for the turbos LOL (J/K) but the stealerships appreciate it

It's $9.00 now

And that was one of the things I found. Pulled off the passenger's side valve cover and wondered how my truck was still running.

That's still $8.50 more then the quarter mod on each side. Do you still get 3 clips for $9.00? I still have the third one. I am surprised I didn't loose one of those "microscopic" clips.

Good show. Between the two of use we can supply a third party with the clips for their loose connectors. You got anyone in mind?
