Question Rough start

Now, I know this is just another rough start thread. I will go into detail for my experience and questions.

I live in michigan and lately the weather has changed to cold (30's) overnight.

I replaced my glow plugs a couple of weeks ago. The chk engine light never went off after replacement. I installed the CCV kit the same time as the glow glugs.

It took about five time of cranking for it to finally start. The usual tint of blue smoke came out. After a couple of seconds it went away.

I dont remember last year having this much trouble starting the truck within this degree. I have started it last year without heating it and with it only being 20 degrees.

now for the questions:

1. Do the glow plugs need to be broken in before they take full effect?
2. Would the computer reset itself after replacing the glow plugs?
3. Should I go to the dealership and get it reset and see if the chk engine light comes back on? (I have a hook-up for readings) the original reading was circuit #7 failure.
4. Would the small amount of oil that leaked into the glow plug hole be that greatly effected?
5. Should I just chaulk it up to being another year older and that I need to plug it in more due to the weather?

Thanks in advance,

Al

Did you check for a loose under the valve cover 9 pin connector when you change out the glow plugs?

Clint, would that give a code for the whole bank of them being out, and also issues while driving/ideling?

When mine came loose, the connector was at angle and only a couple of cylinders were affected.. and sometimes it would run great... but, yes you probably right..

I dind't do the quartor mod, all I did was push on it and they both felt good and tight.

If it was a loose connection(harness), wouldn't it toss a bunch of codes and just not one? Or could it have just been on that much of an angle to where it only affected the #7?

When I replaced the plugs, I felt all of the connections make a pop sound once I hooked them to the wires. Sorry dont know the tech term.

OK.. you have other than problems... you would also get a P1316 code if the connector was loose..
