For starters I have already read the sticky, so let me start.
Like above '89 IDI we bought new, now 37,686mi. I, instead of checking and changing a couple of glow plugs due to hard starts went to my local ford dealer and bought 8 new ones and changed them all.
Now at initial cold start after the light goes out at approx 8-10sec. I don't get the clicking/cycling and it doesn't start, turn the key off and then back on, wait for the light to turn off, then I can hear the relay clicking and it starts right up like its supposed to.
Question is, would this be the relay being corroded, pitted not delivering enough amperage to 8 new glow plugs?
Prior to changing out the glow plugs the light stayed on for 8-10sec., then the normal clicking from the relay, just prolonged cranking time which is why I changed the glow plugs in the first place.
Sounds you like have a gp controller issue somewhere, I would say its not doing its afterburn. The clicking you hear afterward is the relay turning off and on after the engine has started.
check your grounds first.
the glow circuit does not always after cycle, it depends on block temperature.
if it is 20 degrees mine will cycle. if it is 60, it will not.
