I'm trying to remove a bracket that was in my truck when I got it. It is attached right below the climate controls. It looks like I need to remove the upper dash to get to the top screws on the panel where the cup holder and hook thingy is. I have been able to pop some of the fasteners in the upper dash but it seems the radio needs to come out, HOD DO YOU DO THAT?? Is there something you have to stick in the 4 little holes on the outer edge of the radio panel? Also I took out the 2 little bolts that are on either side of the cup holder assy but it still won't budge.
Can someone PLEASE provide some insight on how do finish this job before I pull too hard on something and BREAK it!! I would attach some pictures of the bracket but I STILL am NOT allowed to post attachments for some reason!!!
I put the pictures in my gallery. PLEASE HELP.
Removing the stereo is a simple procedure. You can buy the removal tools or fabricate your own with a metal hanger. Simple make two "u" shape pieces that are spaced the same distance as the distance of the holes in the stereo. The point of this procedure is to release all four catches at once. Insert the two ends of one "tool" into the right side and one into the left side. Push the hanger "tool" in until you feel resistance. If you have done this correctly, the stereo will simply pull out. I hope that this description helps. It would be easier with pictures, but I cannot post them either.
I needed to remove my dash on my 01 earlier this summer and tried to get the radio out with the bent wire. I had used that trick before on an explorer. I couldn't get it out that way and ended up spending the few bucks it cost for the "removal wires" from the parts store and it made it a lot easier. So if you can't get the radio out easily with the home made stuff, go get the tool. It is better than having a buggered up radio or dash.
I appreciate the inputs! The coat hanger wire trick did NOT work but I was able to pull the whole upper dash far enough out to access the top bolts of the lower. I then figured out the sliding cup holder removal trick and was able to get the bracket and wires out!! It all went back together quickly. Thanks again.
