I had a 1,000 lb. engine stand fail on me last year with a 428 cj motor on it so I would not use anything under a 2,000 lb. stand. Cost me a new pan and several pulleys. Almost my left arm.

The motor loaded is 900lbs or so. I used a 2000 lb stand and it was touch and go at times.

I do sometimes wonder who or what standard they use for rating these stands. There is definitely no fudge factor built into them. I can just about guarrantee that.

Its suprising too. Considering I've had a lot of weight on crappy 1k pound jack stands. Hydraulic pumps usually can't take anywhere near what they are rated for though. Considering how many 3-5k lb floor jacks I've destroyed with trucks.

What are you doing to the motor!?!? I wana play.

Come on down to Texas I'll buy the beer. I burned up a piston(I think). So I found a motor with 30,000 miles on it and I'm going to stud it and all sorts of good stuff before reinstalling it. Then I'm going to start rebuilding the one I'm pulling out. I hope the block is not bad. We will see.

I wish. I just took a 2 week vacation (well I'm still on it till monday) to make up for the fact that I'm not going to have a single day off until March 1st. I've got a project in store for the spring though that involves doing basically the same thing so make sure you take lots of pictures of the tear down and build. I need to see what I'm in for
