360-460 engine swap

360-460 engine swap
I just bought a 76 F100 that someone did a total junk job of stuffing a 78 460 into. I've pulled the motor and after reseaching the vin# it originally came with a 360. Do I need special motor and tranny mounts to get the 460 back in properly? Maybe new drive shaft too?

Hi, you'll need new frame engine mounts or perches for sure, the tranny mount should be ok. Put the proper mounts in and then replace the engine and trans before getting another driveshaft, yours may be ok once the engine is in the proper mounts. The frame has 3 holes drilled for the trans mount so you can shift it back and forth about 4 inches, so that may have been moved too when the PO cobbled up the install. Have fun

1973/79 F100/350 2WD's came with 460's...just find one a these and remove all the engine mounting parts.
There is a right (D3TZ6028A) and a left (D3TZ6029A) engine support (aka towers, stands, perches) that bolt to the frame rails.
There is a right (D3TZ6030A) and left (D3TZ6031A) bracket that bolts to the block, the rubber insulators bolt to these, then to the supports.
There are two front rubber insulators aka motor mounts (D3TZ6038A). These are the same right and left.
NOTE > > Econolines with 460's: The parts are NOT the same!
Engine ID: 460's have 7 valve cover bolt holes per side. The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: J = 1973/79 F100/350 460.
