I finished the rebuild of my 300 I6, in my F150. I dropped it in last week, and with its new fresh paint job, the inner fenders look real bad, so I thought I should paint them.
Seems like a stupid question, but I thought I would ask. If I unbolt the hinge will the nuts stay in place and be there when I go to bolt the hinge back up?
Would be highly iritating to unbolt them, and the nut fell down inside the fender well. Thanks for your imput, I will post pictures as soon as the painting is complete!!
The nuts are fastened to the inner fenders from underneath and "should "stay in place, I have had one or two come undone because of rust on the bolts. I would sugest leaving the hinge in place and cleaning around it, these hoods can be terrible to get lined back upand take minutes to hours to get the hood to shut and look right. Good luck.
Thanks, duste I had already went and took the hinges off and got them all painted up. All of the nuts stayed in place. I painted around the hinges, so after I took the hinges off, and painted them, it will be easy to see where they were. Your right, hood adjustment can be a real bear to get right IF you can!
But when it happens, its time to crack open a cold one and yell F'n AHhhhh!!
Yes the hood alignment can be a real bear. I decided last week to make a ''little'' adjustment and after an hour later of fussing with it, it still looked the same...lol. Much easier as a two man job.
A trick to use is to drill a small hole thru the hinges and the mounting surface the size of a large nail or pin. This will help in the install operation. This also works for doors.
