Need more electrical help!!! HAZARDS!
As I've stated before, I was having serious wiring issues with my '63 F-100, so I decided to buy a EZ Wiring harness. I must admit, these guys have been great at determining where things go, but I think they steered me wrong on this last question.
On the ORIGINAL Ford wiring diagram for my truck, it doesn't show a HAZZARD switch. However, I have one on my dash next to the instrument cluster. When I take the panel off, the switch is attached. I figured out the Green/White and White/Blue wires...must the turn signals. The red is the power to the switch, but what are the blue wire and the orange wires for?
Also, this new fuse panel has a HAZARD circuit, and the guy at EZ Wiring told me to take the HAZARD power wire to the switch, and then run the switch to the two parking wires. I haven't totally installed the harness yet, but this seems WRONG. First, wouldn't I want to connect the outgoing wires to the turn signals and not the park lights? Next, if I do install them on the park lights, wouldn't I need a diode to keep the parking light power from going back to the hazard switch? If so, could anyone suggest a size of diode and where to find it?
Somebody...please help me. QUICKLY!
Thanks,
Paul
Western Auto, Sears, NAPA and etc. all sold their own versions.
So...this means the 4 way flashers your truck has...may not be genuine Ford.
The original 1961/64 Ford switch (C1TZ13A350A) has four terminals, came with (4) 6" pigtailed wires.
1961/64's use the same switch. 1965 is a different switch than 1961/64's used. The 1966 switch is different than 1965.
1967 was the first year Ford trucks came with 4 way flashers as standard equipment.
Prior to 1967, most trucks do not have 4 way flashers because it was an extra cost option.
Regardless, though, I just want to know the best way to wire it. My thoughts would be to wire power to the switch, take the outgoing wires and run them to three places [dash warning light, panel turn signal indicators, and turn signal lights (front and rear)]. My new harness has a connector for turn signal out and indicator out to be joined at the column connection. I think the best bet is to attach there so the turn signals AND the indicators are wired at the same time.
As I stated earlier, I'm hesitant to actually connect them to the parking lights as there will be wired wired power coming to the outgoing side of the switch when the parking lights are running.
Please help as soon as possible as I'm starting to run wire in about two hours.
Thanks,
Paul

Here is what I drew for a schematic when I installed my 4 way flasher.
Flasher unit has 6 conductors as follows, White/Red to hazard flasher, White/Blue to right front, Blue to Blue of turn signal switch, Red/Black to brake switch, Green/White to left front, Blue to turn signal flasher.
Now on your turn signal switch, the following get connected to the flasher unit.
White/Blue to White/Blue right front lamp, Blue to Blue turn signal flasher, Red/Black to Red/Black brake switch, Green/White to Green/White left front lamp.
This worked perfectly on my '65 F250. The flasher unit I got was an NOS Ford unit.
Hope this helped.
