Yep, Saskatoon is kind of off by itself out there. I'm practically your neighbor, but it's still a seven hour drive for me.
That's one of the inconvenient things about Canada, stuff is a long way away.
For work I have to get out to some places near Grande Cache Alberta. That's about borderline as to whether it's easier to fly, and then take a 2-3 hour drive on the other end, or just do the whole distance driving. If it wasn't for the whole security dance we have to do before the flights, the plane would win hands down.

While living here does have it`s draw backs including so pretty cold winters we don`t get hurricanes or many tornadoes so there is some compensation as well.
What line of work are you in seventyseven250?
Drilling Engineer. I spend 98% of my time at a desk in Calgary, but depending on the year, I "get to" go out to many exotic destinations, like Fort Nelson BC, Grande Prairie AB, Grande Cache AB, and for one memorable winter, Conklin AB.
I'm the guy with the clean coveralls. I joke with the crews that I'm not out there to work, I'm out there to watch them work. Usually for less than a week at a time, so it's not too bad. I also have a couple of kids at home, so it's nice to have a little shack to myself sometimes.
Here's a pic I found to give you guys the idea if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Since I'm not a regular member of the on-site team, I get whatever shack is empty that day. Some days it's pretty nice, come days it's the worst shack on the location, and some days it's nothing, which means I'm driving back and forth to the nearest camp or hotel.
Hey seventy seven 250 , people places and things may be separated by vast expanses of what some consider empty space . Others cherish the tranquil beauty of those spaces .
Ah, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say anything bad about the rural area or wilderness, hell, that's where I spend my recreational time. Just saying it's troublesome when you need to be in two places on the same day and they are a long way apart.
Vast geography is one of Canada's big advantages, and also a challenge.
