Exclamation Massive Oil Leak HELP!!!

I am having a massive oil leak I'm talking a quart or so after idling for 5 or so minutes. The entire under body of my truck is coated with oil ( I found the leak after driving to work) The main leak point I can see is coming from the inspection plate between the engine and trans. It seems to be more on the passenger side of the engine. I am assuming it is the rear main. Any other ideas as to what it could be? Also is it possible to change the rear main in the truck?

Thanks in advance.

Doubtful it's the rear main, look up top in the valley there are quite a few places there that can leak and run down the back

1st, it is more than likely not your rear main.....

Open the hood, grab a bright arz flashlight and climb up over your engine. Shine that light-stick (sorry USMC verbage) and point it down in the valley. Is the oil pooled up in the back half only or from the front half all the way back? High-pressure oil lines to the HPOP are in the front. O-rings on the turbo pedestal are at the rear.

X2. Sounds like a leak up in the valley. Oil pools up there and there is a small drain hole on the passenger side. Oil gets high enough to run out the hole and down the inspection plate. Either that or you parked on an incline and it drained out.

X3 on the main. It's the last thing on the list of suspects. Check everything on the top of the engine first.

Okay. I just ran out and checked and I can see a puddle under the fuel filter. All of the connectors and harnesses have oil on them. Whats the best way to begin troubleshooting? Start from the front and work my way back? Is there a place I can order a set of o rings?

Thanks for your help

Sounds like you've blown an o-ring. You'll be out at least a couple of dollars to get this fixed. First, here's a link where you can buy the proper type o-rings Replacement O-rings for Diesel Engines

Next, with a leak that big, and judging by the location, it sounds like an HPOP line, end plug, or possibly the so called non-serviceable plug. Step one will be to clean things up so you can determine where exactly the leak is coming from. Some simple green and water from the garden hose will go a long way here.

A leak under the fuel filter sounds like it's HPOP related. That's the High Pressure Oil Pump that basically sits just below and forward of the fuel filter. The most common leaks there are from the high pressure lines (one goes to each head labeled outlet fittings) or the end plug. After you clean things up, an inspection mirror will help some, and maybe sticking a white rag under there to help pinpoint the source of the leak. Once you know which spot is leaking, we can walk you through the repair procedure.

Give Clay a call he will fix you up. Or your Ford stealership will have them.
I would find out which ones I need first. Have you narrowed it down to where the leak is.

Are the outlet fittings visible from the top of the engine? If the fittings I was looking at are the outlets the leak must be the plug because I figure I could see a steady leak that is leaking this much. I won't be able to dive into it heavily until the weekend but I definitely appreciate the help thus far. I'll follow up when I get it taken apart.

Thanks again.

The outlet fittings point toward the driver side head. The end plug points toward the rear of the truck. There's also another plug underneath the HPOP, but that leak is less common.

If you can, clean the valley using simple green and a water hose. Then you can crank it and find the leak easier.

High Pressure Oil flow diagram.

See this LINK for some HPOP info.

The "do not remove - NON-serviceable plug" can be removed and replaced with a new plug and o-ring. Available from International as a repair kit for a DT466 HPOP. See this LINK.

Edit: Here are instructions for removing and installing HPOP. This is from Dieselsite and are for the Andrenaline HPOP install. Just ignore the part about the check valves when re-installing stock HPO. LINK

I just had to fix a leak at the "non-serviceable" plug. Here is my Webshots album showing the fix:
HPOP pictures from trucks photos on webshots

You can really only see that plug with a flashlight and an inspection mirror. Here is what it looked like after I had the HPOP out:

Alright, I was able to find the leak. If you are looking from the passenger side, it is the right (rear most) outlet fitting. I bought the "mechanics parts cabinet" kit from Riff Raff. It is leaking from the fitting to the pump. Whats the best way to get in and replace the o ring? Should I replace any others while I'm in there?

Thanks,
