My 06 4.6l f150 just hit 50,000 miles and I have kept up with most of the maintenance pretty well. Would anyone recommend I go ahead and flush my trans out as well? Ive called two different dealerships to get quotes, one told me to go ahead and get it done, the other one told me to wait until it hits 60k.wtf. Ive done some heavy towing but over short distances only. Ive also noticed a whine in my trans. whenever 3rd gear engages. what would you guys say?
I'd go with a complete fluid EXCHANGE. Flushes often involve adding "cleansing" chemicals. These can and have caused tranny problems sometimes. EXCHANGING is a gentle way of replacing all the tranny fluid with fresh fluid. If the old fluid had lots of miles on it I'd do 2 fluid exchanges. The second one maybe 10,000 miles after the first. Then go on a 30,000 mile fluid exchange. At least for the first exchange change the filter and refill the pan then do the exchange. Most likely you can do this every other ATF exchange unless you are getting lots of debris in the fluid.
Thanks for the input. I found out I have the 4R70E trans. Ford dealership recommended flushing it out, dropping the pan, replacing filter, adding new fluid for $175 plus the cost of a new filter. Does it even need all this done or just a simple fluid exchange like you guys said? Im **** about this, want to keep her running long time. Thnkas for the input
