hello, i picked up a new headlight switch from ford today for my 97 f350, is there anyone that has done this replacement and how do i get it out of the dash.thank for any help.
To get to the switch is pretty basic. Pull the plastic ***** off of the headlamp and wiper switches and carefully pull the plastic trim pieces off.
I can't remember if our trucks are the same as the older ones, but there should be two bolts holding the switch in place. You should be able to pull the switch out and have enough room to pull the pigtail apart.
I'm going to try to explain it to you. but pulling the dash bezel off is tricky.
You have to start by pulling the **** off the headlight switch. it requires a small screw driver to push the tab back so you can pull it off.
Start at the top of the trim and work your way back and fourth across the top pulling strait out. slowly.
The tabs up there are known to break. I didn't have any luck on my 95, but did it no trouble on my 94 with the help from my white stick.
Just take your time and work your way around.
Putting the steering wheel down helps. Once that trim piece is off, unplug the idiot lights on the right side and the tank selector if you have one, and you can get at the headlight switch.
should be a swap out.
you gotta pull the trim pieces on the trim off and pull the 2 screws out there first.
I always forget about those. They were gone on my 95 due to PO stupidity.
The white stick unfortunately isn't something you can purchase from a store. They make something simmilar.
Just be careful when you pull the trim back, work your way around slowly, dont pull one area out all at once. and make sure the stearing column is all the way down.
Remember to take the 2 screws out first. They are behind the silver trim pieces, or grey if its an XL. (I think they are grey on all xl's... *Shrugs*)
Those pop out. You can prolly use a flat headed screwdriver on them.
thanks, i got the trim out without breaking them, light switch, relays, and back running, drove it to work today with no blackouts, thanks for the help guys.
