Hi Guys, Just noticed the dash mount cup holder isnt coming out like it did before.I push on it to have it spring out,and it wouldnt.I can pry on it lightly from the side, and it will come out about halfway...anyone had this problem? and if so whats the fix.
I had the same thing happen to me after a trip to the good old stealership. As it turns out, when the removed the radio bezel to replace the blend door actuator, one of the clips fell into the cup holder and jammed the whole thing up. I took the cup holder apart and removed the clip and it seemed to fix it. Do you remember how the cup holder used to come out? Mine only pops out about half way under the spring tension and I have to pull it out manually the rest of the way. I assumed that this is the way that it was supposed to work, but I could be wrong. It was broken for about 6 months before I fixed it, so I really don't remember how the thing was supposed to open when it worked properly.
Yeah..This is kind of a pisser...Ive had the 07 for about 6 weeks, and its been great, The Cup holder(until yesterday) popped all the way out as soon as I pushed on it.I cant for the life of me figure out why it started this all of the sudden. I have placed nothing in the ash tray, and there has been literally nothing put in it that would cause a problem that I can see.Guess Ill pull the bezel this weekend, and look to see whats keeping it from coming out as it should.
Mine has never popped out all the way on it's own. It only pops out about an inch then I have to pull it out the rest of the way. If it's supposed to pop out completely on it's own then maybe there is a spring or spring type mechanism that is worn out and might be replaceable. It would have to be motorized otherwise spring action would be way too fast.
Did the weather happen to change in your area?
I have noticed that once it gets much colder (-12C right now) my cup holder does not want to pop out. It won't even leave an edge to pry from the dash unless I give the dash a few hits.
Then I'm able to slide it out.
The dealership claims that there was some residue of some sort causing this to happen. After my inspection, the residue was grease that was most likely put on at the factory.
The weather hasnt changed to drastically here,I just closed down the pool a couple of weeks ago.The truck also is Garaged at night,so the expansion/contraction theory(while plausible indeed) doesnt come into play here.
Ill pop the bezel off this weekend and investigate...Thanks for the replys guys..Ill let you know the outcome.
Hi guys, thanks for all the suggestions.I pulled the bezel assy off,and un-bolted the cup holder assy.Took it apart, and found a severely compressed box that used to hold 5 single edge razor blades!
Pulled it out,and re-lubed the slides.works like a charm...also concerning the spring pressure...it is correct that the spring just pushes it out about an inch, manual"pullage" makes it extend out all the way.
I had the same issue, especially when its cold out. Cleaned and lubed it and works like new. I always thought it was funny that my regular cab has 6 cup holders! 2 in the dash, 2 in the armrest and one in each door (the sales literature shows gatoraid bottles in them).
