Me again. I need to know how you disconnect the fittings from the air conditioner core. I tried searching but no luck so I'm hoping a knowledgeable soul will come to my rescue. Thanks in advance.
You need a special tool for disconnecting the lines. Please don't touch the AC lines unless you know how to and have the tools to work on your own AC system. If you need to break into that, you need to ask yourself which is cheaper, having a pro do it, or buying several hundred dollars worth of tools and literature.
You not allowed to open the A/C system anymore and bleed freon into the atmosphere depleting the ozone layer. The EPA is currently patrolling the highways and byways of this country handing out $25,000.00 fines to people doing what you are planning to do. Best to go down to your local auto A/C shop and have them "RECOVER" your freon unless you have a few thousand dollars sitting around to buy your own unit.

Spring-Lock coupler disconnect tools, available at any auto parts store. About $10 for a set of the cheap plastic ones.
I would like to thank anybody who helped me with your advice and/or instructions to get this job done. It took the whole weekend and the next one will probably go to the garage. I will say the instructions for the 97 F150 are very close for the 99 and were a great help. Good timing as the weather has gotten winter like today. Also the reason I had asked about the air conditioner fittings is I never had a reason to be that up close and personal with the engine compartment before now as this is the first grief the truck has caused me so I was curious. Should anything go wrong with the air I guess I'll sell the truck.Thank you, again.
