I"m running the MBRP 3" downpipe from Bean's Diesel Performance. Only about $90, fits great and has the stock flange for the cat but I'm running without one. 4" pipe into a 4" glasspack (NC requires a muffler)

did you install the downpipe yourself? did it need to be welded at all?

I installed it myself. No welding needed. Took me less than 2 hours. It would have been faster if I wasn't using a battery powered sawzall. The batteries kept dying.
You have to cut the head off of the old downpipe to get the stock one out. (pics in my gallery)
To get the new one to not rub on the firewall you need to cut the body seam underneath and bend it out of the way also.
The hardest part was getting the old one out.
I would reccommend getting a good flat band style clamp for the downpipe though (where the two pieces of the downpipe meet). Gives more room and seals better than the old style clamps.
So do you guys leave the muffler on year round or just for inspection?
I didn't have a muffler on this whole year because I didn't need an inspection this year. If you transfer the title from a different state you don't need to inspect it the first year.
But this year when I went for inspection they said I need a muffler. I don't feel like dealing with taking stuff on and off all the time so I'm gonna just leave the glasspack on all year. I can always heat it up and knock the glass out of it if I don't like it and make it basically straight piped anways...
Dang it, someone beat my good deal. Here's the crown
Thank you good-sir-night! I shall wear it proudly. Always looking for deals. I was particularly happy with that one. Mind you after a year, the wife insisted on putting the muffler back in. Still no kitty though.

My lady says that my truck needs to be louder. She's says that my cousins cummins sounds better, but after asking some questions it turns out its mostly becuase he has a manual. We'll see if a downpipe makes it any louder.
