Cool Electrical Problem Help! Relay Short?

Hi guys, first time here on this forum, usaually on the diesel stop. Well no one there can answer my problem, much less reply so I'll give it a shot. Thanks in advance!

----------
About 7 months ago, my alarm began to act up on my truck, it would randomly trigger itself. Finally, I got tired of it and went outside to just manually lock the doors so the alarm would not be armed (at the time I thought it was the alarm). When I went out there, I noticed my radio was on. It startled me and I thought maybe the trigger switch in my door was stuck. I opened and shut the door a few times and nothing worked so I pulled the relay from the in cab fuse box (It controls windows, radio etc.) this eliminated the problem at the time, but it went on for about a month and finally stopped, it seemed to just "fix" itself. Six months later its acting up again. It has the same MO, except my yellow tops are dead almost every morning when I go to start my truck. I discovered one night that the light on the back of the cab is cycling through out the night on and off( on for about a minute, off for about 10). I'm not sure what is doing this. I bought a new relay, it wont be here till monday or tuesday. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Picked up my new relay yesterday morning. It fixed the problem all day, yet this afternoon I went to start my truck, batteries completely drained, power locks wouldn't even work. I could tell my radio is what killed it again... It was still tilted out as if it was powered up. Also, my fog lights (not stock, aftermarket) were lit up even though they run off a power switch. Could be coincidence that the switch broke at the same time, but I'm not thinking so. Got the truck on a trickle charger and the radio fuse unplugged for the night. Hoping someone can shed some light!

The older trucks around 99-2000 or so had these type problems, and it was almost always caused by the windshield leaking water on the inside of the truck and it ran down into the fuse box and the "GEM" module. The GEM module is what controlled the timing for the accessory delay relay which powers the stuff you are having problems with.

But if I remember correctly, your truck doesn't use a GEM anymore, it uses a microprocessor located in the instrument cluster. There is a relay in the cluster called a "battery saver" relay and it controls the accessory delay relay(this is probably the relay you are messing with).

Sorry to say, but these new trucks have computers all over them. You have the computer in the cluster, the engine computer, and at least one body computer where all the door locks and stuff are hooked in. All these computers are tied together on a network where they communicate to each other. For instance if the door ajar switch is activated, in the old days they would have a wire running up to the cluster to light a door ajar light. In your truck the body computer recognizes the door ajar switch is activated, and it communicates this to the cluster computer which turns the door ajar light on in the cluster.

I am explaining this a little bit to let you know it's very hard to diagnose problems without the diagnostic tool that can get on the network and find problems. The dealer of course has one of these, I don't know if any of the local garages have started investing in them.
