I use a Dahl-100 as my pre-pump, and have not had a fuel delivery problem for the entire time it's been installed, about 65,000 miles.

I do not have any horsepower-enhancers, so do not have inordinately high fuel demands, but I also filter it there to two microns, with a corresponding significantly-higher restriction.

I believe the Baldwin BF1212 to be a very good filter, and if I were to do it over again would likely choose it over the Dahl, especially for ease of element change.

In my opinion, there's not a significant-enough restriction in any of the commonly-used pre-pump filters to affect the pump's performance to warrant elimination, and there's a real problem that can develop at the pump's input screen if you do.

One of the brothers on here offered to sell me a Dahl 100 filter set-up.

Where are you getting filters from? If in a pinch I know I could go to Napa or O'Reilly's for filters.

How difficult are the element changes? The Dahl is much more expensive than a Ballwin set-up.

Thanks all!

I'm using this same set up with the Carter helper pump between the factory pump and the Baldwin filter. IMO it's never a good idea to not have a filter before any pump, and I really wasn't going to put the pump between the tank and filter and have to add yet another filter to protect the lift pump. I really don't have much to add because I did not take any fuel pressure readings before or after the ITP/Hutch mod. What I can tell you is that the day I did it, my fuel pump quit on me. Whether it was from dirt, being overworked, coincidence, or just that last straw on a 170,000 mile pump remains unknown. After replacing the pump I added the Carter lifter pump and have been fine ever since. I have no idea if I need it or not, but I have peace of mind. I feel no difference in power with or without it btw.

I bought a case of two-micron elements off eBay before I installed the Dahl, and at the rate I'm using them, I have a lifetime supply. I'll likely never buy another. I would think that a marine (boating) supply would have them, as they are quite commonly used on diesel-powered boats. The auto-parts houses will likely not have them in stock.

Changing the element is more complicated than just changing a spin-on and takes more time, but it filters smaller particles, so I believe it's worthwhile to put up with the greater hassle.
