i put strobes in my 03 f-250 psd. they're in the front turn signal assembly and the strobe bulbs keep melting. they're the recon strobe kit, followed the instuctions exact and now this. i have them drilled in from the top, should i move them elsewhere or what? i have to keep them in my clearance lights for local law reasons. help me out please!
Local laws require you to equip your vehicle with strobes? Weird... Most states have laws preventing them...
Anyway, it's time to step up to a decent quality strobe setup like a Whelen or Tomar. Or get more up to date with a slick LED setup in the grille, strobes are kind of old news now...
Most strobes that I've seen are mounted from the bottom with the bulb pointed up or from the back with the bulb pointed forward. I'm not sure if it's for heat dissipation or what, but that's how I've seen them. This is a dumb question, but is the strobe mounted over the signal light bulb?
Should have been a lil more specific, for what i do, we can not have them in the headlights. The strobe is not mounted over the signal bulb. I think i will try moving them and see what happens.

A typical strobe install has the strobes mounted in the rear or bottom, so that the center of the strobe tube is below 1/2 way up the reflector of the housing. When I've installed strobe tubes in the past, I've always had them directly below the stock bulb (in the taillights for example), or right next to it. Usually you want them fairly close to the stock bulb to take advantage of the reflector. I've played with various strobe kits over the years up until about 2 years ago, when I dumped them in favor of better LED lighting, and I've never ever had a quality strobe tube melt.
NO offense but ive never heard of this law. If so, your city is the first ive ever heard of that. Legally they cannot write you a ticket for that, or else Ford has some lawsuits coming to them. I agree with wizardsr that most states would "NOT" want you to have strobes on your vehicle since it could be taken the wrong way by other drivers.
My bulbs are mounted in the turn signal area horizontal. Both front bulbs are just inside the turn/parking light bulb. So, moving out away from the radiator, you would see the strobe bulb, then the parking light bulb. Never had any heat issues yet but they don't run very long. I don't sit on the side of the road with them on.
The rear bulbs are mounted inside the little clear reverse light lens. Very tight fit and they do get hot. I just don't run them enough to have any problems.

Reason: rear
Are they melting from use of the actual strobe or are they melting from the heat of the park light?
I'm not familiar with Recon's kit, but I wouldn't put it past them to use poor quality parts. Either go with Whelen strobes or upgrade to the new LED HAWs.
