VIN needs decoding

Hi all, I have a VIN that needs decoding for a 1970 F100 if you don't mind. I know it is a I6, don't know if thats a 240 or 300, and it is a 3-on-the-tree, but thats about it.

F10ACK23363

Thanks ahead of time, probably thanks NumberDummy

I believe A would be the 240.

I found out it is the 240 / 1BBL made in October 1970 in Ontario.

Is the 240 as reliable as the 300? Cause I heard from a lot of people that the 300 was very reliable.

yeah but the MARTI report costs more than the distrib. points im going to have to fix.

does the 240 have the same rap as reliable as the 300 though?

Have you seen wickedinhere's post on his truck? Check here. He has totally redone or at least slight rebuild of his 240 and it looks and according to him is very strong. Check it out.

LMC Truck catalog has VIN # info: F10ACK23363 F10=F100 2WD A is the engine code which according to LMC yours is 6Cyl 240 1V carb C should be the assembly plant (Ontario) K23363 is the consecutive unit number. This is also in my original '68 shop manual. It should be in others. Hope this helps.

Most VIN decoders found in aftermarket parts catalogs, and on the various websites are rife with errors and omissions.

The absolute worst VIN decoder is LMC's.

If you want factual info, the apropos parts catalog is the only reliable source.

I've decoded well over 700 VIN's here on FTE..using the parts catalogs only.

btw: 240 1V I-6 VIN engine code: J = 1965 only // A = 1966/74.

No 240 I-6's after 1974.
------------------------
F10ACK23363

F10 = F100 2WD

A = 240 1V I-6

C = Oakville, Ontario Canada Assembly Plant. This does not mean the truck was only sold in Canada.

K = 1971 Numerical Sequence of Assembly (Serial Number).

I can also decode all the codes found on the Warranty Plate.
