Thanks for all your input. I may have other issues now as it's about 30 degrees F and snowing tonight. Now my glow plugs don't seem to be cycling and the engine doesn't seem to fire at all. It is turning over fast enough but it's like I have no fuel to burn.
The WTS light stays on for about a half a second and goes out. I have the block heater plugged in and I"m charging my batteries. I've ordered a GPR to install next week. I'm going to try and jump the terminals on the GPR to cycle the glow plugs to see if it will fire. Wondering now if my little switch is giving me an ICP issue for cold starting (if it's an ICP fooler?)
There was a chip company years ago that used a 3-position switch and a light that acted as you describe. I believe it was a company called Western Diesel Performance, but with all of the inside trading/sharing, it could belong to anybody. Check the PCM (near the parking brake assembly) for a wire coming out of the black plastic cover. It takes about 10 seconds out of your day.
Well now there's more to this but maybe you can confirm what Cody said above. I figured out that my glow plugs are lighting and I got my truck running this morning. Just have to get used to the truck and figure out its quirks I guess. It is still below 30 F this morning, and when I got the truck running for a minute it kicked into a high idle (about 1200 rpm). Then when I hit the brake before shifting into gear it drops the idle down to around 750 to 800. I thought about trying the little switch again but when I switched it into the bottom position, the truck died almost instantly. I think there's a fuse blown on the switch and light now as the light is not lighting any more. Maybe I'm back to stock now without doing anything under the dash.
I'll check the pcm for anything hooked to it. (now that I found on FTE where to look for it, this is a great resource)
Does it start normally still? The EBPV sounds like it's working normally. It's supposed to work exactly how you described it.
Just trace the wires on the switch and see where they go and let us know. If it did lock the TC, it would kill the truck while sitting still. Or is that just while in gear?? Never thought about what would happen if you had the trans in park and locked the TC. Someone know?
It killed it while in Park. I've switched it into that position before when running and it just dropped the rpms about a hundred. Although this is the first time I switched it just after it was started and cold outside at the same time.
I finally have my garage cleaned out enough to park it inside so I'll finally get to do the dash inspection. I'm away all weekend in Alberta with the family so won't look until next week.
Have a great weekend everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada. Go Riders!
