Block heater short

Hey guys,
So yesterday I was goin to test out my block heater on the 01' F250 CC SRW LB, and when I plugged it in I had a shock of my lifetime. It kinda hurt when you get zapped by the plug. So at a closer look its shorting out right behind the plug head. To the point that its melted the insulation and can see sparks. Is this a normal thing? If so..How would you fix this? I can go to Lows and pick up a plug head and attempt to re-wire it. Do you guys have a diagram of the ground, positive and whatever else maybe involved? Thanks as always!

Dan

Yes, you can just put a new end on it. Green should be ground, black is "hot", white is neutral. However, it's just a resistor, so it really makes no difference on the hot & neutral. But on a polarized plug, neutral goes to the large blade, hot on the small. Ground is obvious.

Joe's got you covered. It's a common occurrence for these ends to rub inside the bumper bracket and cause the short. I had to re-wrap my plug end to keep it from rubbing through the insulation.

I would just pick up a new plug and rewire it. Sucks to get shocked!
