I just ordered a 2010 super duty f-350
One question that the dealer didnt seem to know was this
In the book I noticed an option under packages it listed 10,000 GVWR package
The dealer said the truck already had a 11,200 GVWR so he said not to add it to the order
What is that 10,000 package for then?
That does seem odd. The 10k option is the maximum for the F250. It would be a downgrade for an F350. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that. I think your dealer is right, that's not something you want to pay for, and your GVWR will automatically be higher than that.
I think there is a link to a PDF of the dealer order guide floating around here somewhere. Sunrise Ford rings a bell. Maybe try a search for that.
Also, here are the specifications for the 2010 Superduty. It looks like a downgrade to 10k# is available for all cab styles and bed lengths in SRW version. It's not clear to me why someone would do that instead of just ordering an F250, but this guide confirms that it is offered.
The only benefit I know of is that some states are making the GVW cutoff 10K when it comes to what they consider a CMV for licensing purposes. Whereas a truck with a GVW of 11,200 would cost extra to register in some states, a truck with a GVW of 10,000 would not. In other words, a lot of states are jacking up the cost of registration for a vehicle with a GVW of 10,001 pounds and up.

Thats what I heard as well. But not sure why you wouldnt just get a 250, but I suppose even with the 10k downgrade the 350 still probably has slightly higher capacities than a 250.
