Is there a sure fire way to recognize by looking at the CPS either it's color, numbers on it, or other detail, to know if it was the original equipment unit that was supposed to be replaced in the 07s57 recall, or if it is the new unit that would have been installed in the recall? I took my truck in to the dealer last May to have the recall work performed, but yesterday it failed, and the mechanic/ proprietor from the fleet service that repaired it said it was probably the original, because the o-ring was flattened down to a smooth edge (no longer rounded edge). Some posts here mention a grey unit, where mine is all black. I am fuming because of having to pay $248 for towing and wasting half a day getting this remedied, when the purpose of my earlier visit to the dealer was to insure against this! Thanks for any info. I am going to see the dealer's customer service manager and want to know if there is a way to be 100% sure they didn't replace it as they said they had.
yea the recalled cps will be grey in color where as the factory one will be black. Alot of people have the grey ones and some of them do fine and some of them go out in a matter of days. I have nt had the recall performed on my truck. I just keep a spare black one in the glove box

I am a little confused. Do you mean that the original one that came with the truck when new would have been black and the replacements installed at recall are grey? In other words the recalled ones were black and were replaced with grey or vice versa? If the original ones that Ford recalled were black, why wouldn't you want the grey ones which would seemingly be a better design if it was made to replace defective black ones?
Black = original and recalled unit
Gray = replacement unit
Alot trucks have rough running issues with the newer grey unit... i believe it was #3 & #8 cyl during contribution tests
It def is confusing that the recalled unit is better
I just got my dealer to give me the replacement gray cps ... it was hard to convince them because its a "safety recall" but they did it

Your lucky. I just talked to my dealer here and they said that they had to install it on the truck. That they had to take the old one off. I told him that they were silly, becuase my truck is running like a champ and i was not going to bring my truck in for them to make it run like dirt. I told him that the word is that the new ones are worse then the old ones and he agreed. That doesn't make any since to me.
I had to talk them out of it and in the end the parts guy told the service girl that " everytime this kid walks in here he teaches me something just write the ticket"
