I have a 95 F-150 5.0. My truck was fine until out of the blue the engine started sputtering and knocking. When I try to give it gas, the engine doesn't rev up or anything, it just gives off a random knock. If I give a little bit of gas, it will hesistantly go up to about 20 mph. I was told it might be the ICM but I got it tested and it came out good. Whenever it wants to shut off on me I turn off the truck and start it back up with no problem and I can run it again slowly and hesitantly. There's no problem when its idling and it starts up just fine. Can anybody help me out?
Check your fuel pressure with a gauge.
If that is OK check for slop in the timing chain.
If that is OK it might be the PIP sensor or the computer.
You need to pull the codes first so you (and I) are not guessing so much.
^ I have a $30 Ford OBD I scanner, that displays the actual code number. No counting flashes. It comes with a nice manual to explain the codes too. I highly recommend it. Check your local auto parts store, if interested.
I owned that scanner and used it all the time. Quick and easy to use. It was the only thing stolen from my truck when I forgot to lock it once last spring.
I have an 87 f150 with the dual tanks and i had the same problem but it was only with one tank. Check and see if both tanks fuel pumps are working properly by checking the pressure on the pressure check which should be between the fuel filter and regulater. Also have you changed the fuel filter?
I changed the fuel filter and it ran somewhat better for a few minutes and then it went bad again... I checked the codes, and assuming I got them right, I got 11-11.
