Battery ground problem

Stupid problem here, 7/16" bolt that holds the batt. cable to engine block on a 352, bolt will thread in but not tighten up, ran die over bolt, fits perfect, when running tap in hole, fits loosely, threads must be stretched. what can I get to tighten up in hole without drilling oversized? something like an oversized drain pan plug idea??? What size do I need to go to? Original bolt and hole is 7/16" 14tpi. Any help is appreciated
Jeff

Stupid answer here. From what you said, I'd say you need a bigger bolt.

Maybe use a larger tap that fits the hole and get a bolt the size of that tap? You shouldn't have to drill it larger if it's already too big.

Some times the Ford threads can be deceiving, suggest going to the next bolt size larger, or move cable connection to new location, and couple extra ground straps while at it.

is the bolt just spinning or bottoming out before it hits the cable? the next size bolt would be 1/2 in. kinda hard to find a cable with a hole that big i would try a 7/16 heli-coil
