13.1 on alternator

I posted this before and got my answers that this is too low.
Question now is should i take alternator to an alternator repair shop or just get another one?
My batteries dont seem to draw down until it sits for 4 or 5 days, then they are not really down the truck just gives me a sluggish start.
Thanks

13.1 volts on the alternator main terminal with the engine running is about right until the glow plug relay opens.

So if you start the engine and take a reading right away, that's what you'll get.

When the relay opens up, you should be seeing about 14.3 to 14.7 volts.

How long should this take before the glow plug relays open up? Seems I've let motor run for 5 min or more and still only have 13.1??

Yup. After only a couple of minutes they're off.

So, to answer your original question about your two replacement options, if it were mine, I'd find the best auto-electric shop and have it rebuilt by someone who knows something about them.

People tend to have ongoing problems with the parts house rebuilds, even with "lifetime" guarantees.

I'd want to "do it and forget it".

Mine drops into the 12s with the GPs then pops up to mid-13s until I take off and get some RPMs up. Then it sits around 14-14.2. It occasionally gets up to the mid-14s, but most of the time it's around 14 +/-

Thanks, i didnt really time it but let it run idle for a while, 10min or more, checked the voltage and it was 14.0, i'm sure it'll get a little higher while running down the road.
Batteries were reading 12.4 before i cranked it, probably will need some new ones soon, hope later.

Also, if you check the voltage after a cold start with either the AC blower, headlights, or both on, the voltage will stay lower longer. Until you get it up in RPMs, anyway. Might be stating the obvious here, but just want to put it out there. Mine sits around 13.8 with the headlights and blower on high. And it can drop in the low-mid 13s at idle with all that stuff on.
