My cousin has a 2004 Ford F150, he wants to do a manual transmission conversion, I don't know much about the aftermarket world of Fords since I drive a Chevy, any information you guy on here can give me would be greatly appreciated. Not so much by me but my Ford loving cousin. Thanks
In my opinion he has two options,Either trade the truck he has for one that he wants,or get a "Donor" truck that has what he wants in it.
Back in the 'old days" such a conversion was fairly easy,as Salvage yards were full of parts, and one could just go scrounge what he/she wanted.
Newer vehicles not only have more stuff to be done, its also going to involve modifying the electrical system to do a proper conversion.
If he chooses to get a Donor vehicle from a salvage yard,it will need to be VERY close to the same year model, and engine size.
In addition..in order to do this the right way, there is some interior components that will be required.
My suggestion is for him to sell what he has,and buy what he wants...itll be ALOT less hassle.
And ultimately less expensive....
The F250 came with a 5.4 6 speed in the super duty. Just find computer and tranny from one of those and Buy a new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Probably need to modify the crossmember some but it should be fairly straight forward. If he wants 4x4 just get the the transfer case too and get a custom front drive shaft. As far as the interior goes should just need to cut the hole in the floor and if he has a bench seat he should be good. Just drill some holes and bolt the shifter boot down. Doesnt seem that hard to me. Hardest thing would be finding the parts which with the internet age should be all that difficult. Good luck.
