Trouble taking gas?

The last couple times ive been putting gas into my truck it wont let the pump run. every 2o cents it shuts off like its full and its nowhere close to full. Is the breather clogged or something? its a pain because it takes you about ten minutes to pump 20 bucks in gas

this happens to me from time to time, depending on the pump. sometimes i have to pull the nozzle out as far as i can just enough that it wont fall out, and it will work. mainly only have problems with the rear tank, im assuming because the fill line runs almost horizontal and i can see how the angle of the nozzle could cause it to think its full.

Mine does it also. As ya'll said, happens sometimes, not others. I only have a single tank but it still does it depending where I go and how I do it.

What i've noticed and have been told by my dad from his years of driving the truck. it has to do with the way the truck sits while pumping, dad always went to the side of the pumps that had the truck leaning on the right side so when you start pumping gravity takes it down cause what happens is that the gas backs up in the tube and the auto shut off turns on. and you get more gas in the tank that way to cause then the air bubble in the tank can escape along with shakeing the truck. and like others have said it does it sometimes and sometimes not, it also depends on how the nozzle is angled. sadly i think it's just something that all of us will have to deal with just one of those quarks that make up our trucks.

Yeee Haaaw! :)

I don't know how many times I've posted that here and never seen anyone
else mention or take notice the effect filling has by the lean on the pickup.
Until now. :)

I tend to use the older stations since they aren't as "flat", the "outer" pumps
tend to have an outward tilted surface and I make use of that every time.

Tilt it toward the pump and try filling the sorry-***-Ford-design then. ;) LOL

-------------------

Nozzle design too. Haven't been seeing so many of the nozzles with a
straight pipe anymore. Maybe they got too many complaints about them?

The older good ones were bent in the middle, then along came some that
were only bent near the frame. Those plus a little tilt on the pickup made it
impossible (no kidding) to get fuel to go in my '75's rear tank.

-------------------

I'm not going to type it out again but I modified the rear tank on my '75
and it does many things better now. Like... keeping its gasoline -inside the
tank- for one! LOL :)

The rubber hoses were installed upside down and backwards at the factory.
That didn't help matters much either.

Is it ok to like my '75 pickup without being "in love" with Ford Motor Company? ;)
