To the original poster - which year is your truck? '89-'91 have the button on the dashboard, no worry about the wires on those but buttons do go bad with use. '92-'96 (well '97 really, for the F250HD and the F350s) have the button on the shift lever, and they are the ones that like to eat the wires down where they exit the shifter, too bad you gotta pull the plastics off the steering column to verify this is the issue.
^Holy carp haha ima try to be helpful here. I have learned that that code can just mean you did not push your overdrive button during the KOER test, but I get this code too for I never push it either during the test because my manuals have not told me. If someone knows when your supposed to press it pls lemme know it would be a great help. But as said earlier it could be that your wires are for the button are stripped and shorting out where the shift stick meets the steering column. This is what happened to me and I had to take off my steering wheel and other random parts to get to where the wires for the overdrive switch plug into the harness. I just disconnected it, cut the wires at the short, stripped em and soldered em back together and lastly taped it up and put it all back together. Works like a charm but this may not even be your problem.
Does your overdrive button work correctly?
When mine went it would automatically be off when I started the truck and when I tried to turn it on it would blow my automatic transmission fuse. If this does not happen then this prolly isnt your problem. Lemme know, and if this doesn't help you i hope it can at least help someone else.
