WOW.....Just WOW.... thanks guys. now I think I'll call my nephew in Germany and tell him I love him. Back from his 3rd tour on the ground in the Red zone.
And let's all remember the Marine Corps anniversary on Nov 10th. 234 this year, I believe. I was active duty Army, and I've been in the Air National Guard since 1995, but I always try to remember to wish my Marine brethren well wishes on that day.
Great post and thanks Neal and Pops..... I to am a veteran and I thank the brave men and women who fought before me,with me and those fighting today for our freedom to be able to do the things we do on a daily basis... Great post Neal, I will remember and will have my Flag waving proudly!!
Thanks to Pops, Joe and Neal and all the others who put their lifes on the line so we can stand proud and free.
It is nice to see you post Neal. I started a thread worrying about you a few days ago.
As for the topic of the post, you and Pop couldn't be more dead on about this. I am continually in awe of those who make the choice to serve. I am a Marine brat and have a ton of respect from my upbringing. Great thread.

Screw those that think it is just another holiday. It isn't, and never will be, just another holiday as long as I have not assumed room temperature.
Santa is a cash cow, easter bunny is a cash egg, etc... easy to capitalize off.
I am younger (26), and I believe that most young people nowadays have no respect for anyone, no ambition, and no understanding of the sacrifices made so they can have mediocre jobs and gain weight. Years back, people risked their lives, broke their backs, and actually worked to make the world a better place, NOW, whoever can memorize the manual, work like a robot, and let the life bleed out of them gets the good jobs and huge careers. One major thing I liked about working on the oil rigs was always seeing guys starting that left the high paying office jobs because they felt purposeless, and were tired of BS.
Sorry for the rant, but sometimes I feel like USA & Canada are like a giant fat hippopotamus, sitting there lazy and weighing 3000lbs, getting fatter, watching the other animals eat each other.
I guess an underlying point that I originally intended to make was that most people now enjoy a dumbed down sheltered and safe existence, thanks to those who made such great sacrifices, and it is sad that it is so easy forgotten by so many.
I am not from a military family, but I have several friends who are in the US marines, and a few that are in the Canadian military, and I've had a few glimpses of the stress and sacrifice endured today.
For those of us who have been given the gift of freedom, and beautiful countries to live in, it is always nice to give something back, and although we all have busy lives and agendas, a small thought is better than nothing.
