Hi all,
This may not really have a definitive answer. I am looking for a ball-park time it takes the oil to warm up to operating temp range in average ambient temps (maybe 50*). I am getting a PHP tuner, and I know it is bad to run the trucks in a tune that changes timing settings with oil at below-operating temperatures. I don't want to get an oil temp gauge, so I'm just looking for a rough idea, maybe in relation to how long it takes the coolant to warm?
Thanks
It totally depends on air temps, how long it's been sitting, how you're driving it, and if it idled for any length of time. I honestly haven't timed it, but I can definitely say it varies quite a bit. With stock injectors, you don't have too much to worry about. Drive "gingerly" (quote from Diane at DP LOL) until the oil is over 170 degrees, and don't hammer the dog snot out of it cold. I keep mine below 2000 RPM as much as I can until 150, and no hammering it until 170. I guess I could time it tomorrow morning, if I can remember.
