Checking my motor over with the ODB II scanner I found that my coolant sensor is not working right. at first it showed 500 degrees F and then after running for a bit it went down to 50 degrees F. Not likely since its an 80 degree day. The guage works on the dash fine.
So first questions is where is this sensor, it must be different then the guage sensor and second what would it be called. I can only find one coolant sensor at the autoparts store.
I'm guessing you have an automatic. The PCM doesn't monitor coolant temps, so you can't read them. The exception is the manual -- you CAN read coolant temps with that trans. Most of us watch oil temp anyway. Try looking at that one.
Junk. My ScanGauge does the same thing. If you absolutely HAVE to read coolant temps, there is a plug on the side of the waterpump where you can install a sensor and an external gauge, or if you put in a ScanGauge, you can read the sensor with it directly.
I don't need to, just trying to figure out why my truck runs so rich. Someone told me that the oil temp sensors can go out causing a "choke" like condition. When I was in there checking that sensor I noticed coolant and thought I would check that one as well.
I have stage II split shot injectors installed. These are standard split shot with drilled out holes. I have had Bill from Powerhungry try to tune it but it just won't respond like it should.
He thinks one of my new injectors is weak and allowing it to pop early. Jim Rose said he would look them over if I pulled them but I am going to do a compression test first to rule that out.
Fuel pressure on the rail is 60 psi.
high pressure oil pressure is 500 idle and goes up to 2700 - 3100 under wot.
Boost hits about 22lbs at wot.
I installed one of those sever duty AIS systems and am really dissapointed. I think that is causing some of my pyro temp issues. Brand new filter pulls the meter 50% right away. The k&n never moved the meter at all.
I am unfamiliar with Stage II injectors and therefore extremely unqualified to help you. Does sound like an excessive amount of unburned fuel is getting dumped in there though.
How hot do your exhaust temps get? AIS...never heard of it. You mean AFE? You can switch over to a 6637 paper filter, its what the majority of us use for maximum airflow.
The AIS doesn't flow as much as folks think, from what I've been observing. Now, you didn't say you had bigger injectors! But I think you need to start looking at a boost leak. Only getting 22psi from stage 2s is an issue. Are you running a stock turbo?? I'm not surprised at all that you're getting black smoke with stage 2s and only 22psi!

the stage II injectors are a nozzle upgrade.
www.dpppower.com "For 1997-2003 7.3L Split Shot Power Stroke Injectors. Nozzle Upgrade adds approx. 50hp using Brand New 80% Larger 7 hole Power Stroke nozzles."

My truck is the early 99, so smaller intake hoses. I haven't replaced or modified the wastegate.
The black smoke is only one symptom. hard cold starts, loping for a second to many seconds after it starts. milage around 10 towing or not. pyro runs about 800 no load and hits 1200 fast when pulling a hill with my small trailer.
I bought that AIS fender foam piece so I will cut a 3.5 inch hole in the side and see if that get the temps down and reduces the pull on the filter replacment meter. if that doesn't work I will build my own "cold air" system I guess.
