302 roller cam question
I've been MIA here for quite some time... I've had the engine out of my truck for a few months now, and am finally starting to get something together.
When I tore down the 302 that was in the truck, I discovered that it was going to need a full rebuild. Worn bearings, ridge in the bore, etc. I decided that I was going to look for a late model roller block, and carb it, instead of rebuilding the original- It would cost roughly the same amount to do either, so why not get a better engine?
My question is, how good is the stock 302 roller cam? I'm unsure of any specs on it, but the engine I have has E7 heads... I was told it came out of a Mustang.
Anyway, I am wanting to know if it would be a good idea to put a bigger cam in it- The truck will be 99.9 percent street driven, have a 2500 stall converter, and 3.50 gears. I'd like to spin it no faster than 6k, and that wouldn't happen often. I do however, want the truck to be fun. Are the stock cams good enough to do what I want?
Thanks for your advice!!
Andrew
