I recently got a Garmin vista HCX GPS. It's pretty slick except I only have the stock map which really only shows highways.
I'm looking for a map that shows all the side roads and as many forest and dirt back roads as possible. I'm out in Ellensburg, WA and it'd be nice if the GPS wold show more than just "I90" when we're exploring dirt roads.
Anyone know which garmin map would be best for this?
Or even better does anyone have a map for this area that they could send me so I can avoid shelling out for a garmin one.
I've got a Garmin and it's pretty nice. Don't know if they offer maps for off roading. I know it's a bummer because a single update download costs about $65 and unlimited costs almost as much as the device itself and is not transferable it you lose or break your GPS. But like Ford Six said, a topographical or TOPO map will show all the fire roads and goat trails plus give you detail on the elevation. You can also get them at your local Forest Service Station.
