I didn't really see a need for a Nav system, but a buddy of mine bought one and it even tracks the logging roads. I like the map features that show you the upcoming roads before you see it, and the way it even shows you what lane you should be in. Are there any fees other than the initial price, and are there updates to them? I'm looking at the Garmin nuvi 260W for my GPS starter kit. Is that a good one for $347.00?
No fees. Updates cost money. Traffic services usually cost extra. I got the Garmin Nuvi 660 fo $329 on sale at Amazon you can do alot better than the 260W for that price. Shop around.

Good price, but I have a question. Are you able to get a 4yr replacement plan with it on Amazon? I tried wording that question 100 different ways, so as not to come across as a smartass...lol Best Buy has a 4yr replacement plan that covers it even if the screen is cracked from the suction cup failing, and it falling. It has all of the logging roads out here, and service trails on it. I love to go up in the mountains, but getting lost sucks. I've always been able to find my way back down, but I could go with abandon with that thing. We went on a 83-mile loop this morning, and didn't have to pay attention to where we were. I don't know how often they crash, or break, so that's why I'm asking.
No, that price does not include any kind of service plan or extended warranty, just the unit. I do not buy extended warranty or service plans. 99% of the time I never need or use them and the cost is just wasted. For merchants, they are some of the most profitable things they sell. Personally I would rather save that money and if my item breaks I will insure it myself.

True, but I don't know if they last 4yrs...I don't have any experience with the product. I am thinking that if it breaks after 3 years, that they won't have that model anymore, and that a new one, for the same price will have even more features...That's just my thinking; and I know Best Buy makes some hella' deals when something like that happens. They did that with a Sony Grand Wega that crapped out a year ago. They gave me a 52" Sony Bravia to replace the 42" Grand Wega that they didn't make anymore!! Extended warranties make it worth it when chosen carefully. I'm looking at $347.00 with a 4yr replacement plan...

I was looking at the TomTom's too...I never paid attention to the GPS units because my last experience with them was in the Army, and they were still big, and didn't work that great except for in the States.
The vehicle ones have come leaps and bounds. I was messing around with my buddy's GPS last night, and you can switch it to pedestrian mode and mark your car. Damn thing will take you back to your car parked at Disneyland from wherever you're at.
I'm going to buy one. Today, since I'm off. I'm just not sure which one. I don't need the music functions because I have an 80GB iPod hooked into my aux hookup, and I'm not going to play games on it either. (I saw that on one of the versions) I want maps, and travel routes. Logging trails, and Forest Service Trails. That's really about it. Oh, and that damn pedestrian mode so I can find my car without paying attention to where I left it in downtown Denver.
Bought the Garmin Nuvi 260W that I had seen in action. Small enough to carry in a jacket pocket, or my wife can carry it in her purse. The little thing is bad-@ss. Could have got it cheaper on Amazon or eBay, but then I would have had to wait for it. I'm American, so I'm all into that instant gratification thing we're all so well known for...Came with a 4yr replacement warranty. I break it, I get another.
I'm probably the last person to own one, but on the off chance I'm not, go check out the GPS's that are available today...they're nice.
Last question about GPS from me. Where would the best place be to hard wire this to? It sits in the lower left corner of the windshield, where an Edge Pod would go. The fuse box is on the right side of the truck. I want power going to it 24/7.
I put the sticky disc on my dash just to the left of the tray on the center of the dash. You can run a wire down the side of the tray and wire it up where the radio is. There is only about 3" of wire showing and all of that is behind the Garmin.
