The rear differential on my truck is leaking out of the seal where the drive line and differential meet as well as the seal for the differential cover. First was the cover and not a few days later noticed the other leaking.I have the extended warranty but with out the seal and gasket package of course so I don't think that it will be covered. I have found the differential cover gasket but not the one for the drive shaft. The differential cover seems easy enough to replace but i can't find anything about the other seal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's called a "pinion seal", not hard to find once you know what it's called in the parts book.
Look it up in a book first to be sure, but to replace the seal will likely be something much like this:
... remove the drive shaft after marking it ... then mark the companion flange and nut and shaft ... then take the nut off and pull the flange ... and pry out the seal ... and grease / install a new one ... then reinstall the flange ... and torque the nut in steps bringing it up to specification without going past where it was thus bringing the nut back to the point from where it was removed ... and reinstall driveshaft.
Check a shop manual first though, to be sure. It's been a long night.
