I have a 2000 Explorer 5.8L and she runs nice. Lately though, I am going 40-50mph and the RPM's are at 2000. It is only when I step on the accelerator do the RPM's go up to 3000+ but then settle back down. The engine just sounds strange. Kind of stagnant like. Just had the oil service done to it last week. And the transmission fluid looks fine.
Anyfeedback on why this is occuring would be great.
Thanks!
Steve
First of all, I assume you have the 5.0L V8, the 5.8L was never installed in Explorers from the factory.
I'm not sure what your question is. Engine speed of 2000 rpm at 40-50 mph is not low for cruising when in overdrive and the torque converter is locked. When you place the engine under load, the overdrive will kick out explaining the increase in engine speed. Are you suggesting this is different from how your transmission used to behave? Sounds like it's working normally to me. If anything, 2000 rpms at those speeds might be a little high.
