Help anyone got ideas as to why my engine a 5.8 v8 runs fast!!! I have changed the Idle air control valve, temperature, oxygen, tps sensors + loads of other stuff.
Here is what happens, I start the engine it runs fast, after about a minute it slows to a steady idle, then when I put into drive go off down the road it then starts running fast about 2000+ RPM, when i stop at a road junction it's fighting against the brakes!! if i turn the ignition off and then straight back on, it revs faster for a few seconds the slows to a steady idle. This may remain steady for the rest of journey or just a few miles before it may start reving fast again.
Sounds like a problem in the throttle linkage. It could also be sticking in the TB itself. Or the springs for the throttle linkage may be weak. Might also be a VACUUM leak.
thanks mate but iv'e checked all of thoose things, thing is if you turn off the ignition & back on without letting the motor stop it revs faster a few seconds before slowing to a steady idle, thats not touching the accellerator pedal, no codes showing either.
EGR valve might not be closing or opening,Make shure you didnt install the TPS upside down ,very easy mistake. How many amps is your altenator pushing out.I had same problem with my firebird 8 years ago.It was the alternator on its way out.Might just need a tune up.Run some more codes while the motor is off then again while its running.I ran codes a few days apart on my 88 E250 and came up with new numbers that did not show up the day before.
I never thought about checking the alternator, at night the lights dim when at idle regardless as to what power is used. I got a sensor type thing on the battery to tell what state of charge its in, its showing green so fully charged, i will check tomorrow what amps is comming from altenator.
