I dont have a link to a writeup, but I just did mine a few months ago.
Its a fairly simple process, use a 3/8 rachet to pull the plug in the bottom to drain, and on the driver side side to re-fill. Carefully clean both plugs, re-install the drain plug on the bottom. I re-filled mine with penzoil synthetic IIRC. Someone will chime in here, but I believe the correct spec on the fluid is Merc III.
Also, I used a cheap oil transfer pump from harbor freight to re-fill the tranny, made the job a snap. Should take you about 15 minuts all going well.
I want to say that it was just shy of 7 qts. As for the Amsoil, a lot of the folks here swear by it. I think as long as it meets the Mercon III standard, it should be just fine.
Amsoil has a great product, so it should treat you well.
I use one of those screw on lids that has the long clear tube attached that's designed to take the place of a funnel. Screw the thing on the bottle, stick the tube in the fill hole, then tilt the bottle up and let it drain.
The pump pictured above should work as long as you've got a way to make sure the tube stays in the hole and you don't accidentally knock the bottle over.

Ok thanks, the lid you are talking about sounds like a better idea.
thats the exact pump. It worked well, but like Chris said, you have to be careful to keep the discharge in the tranny and not knock the bottle over.
The screw on lid is probably a better idea.
Since you will be in that area, might pick up 2 extra quarts and do your transfer case. Its the same process, only the drain plugs have allen heads.
I dont remember the exact size, someone will chime in.
