Well that's what I was thinking but he mention in his ad that it was a Turbo Powerstroke and the last email he mentioned it again. I mean, why mention that it's a Turbo Powerstroke when all the newer Powerstroke's have turbo.
Kinda like saying this...
"I am selling my '4 wheeled' Corvette with only 3,000 miles......"
-------OR------
"I have a '2 door' 1997 Mustang for sale...."
Why mention something that someone already knows it has and all other's that make/model/year have?
He said his Father-in-Law (the 1st owner and a supposed 'diesel mechanic') did the tranny rebuild 50k miles ago and it cost $1300 to rebuild. But didn't get to specifics on it. When asked if it involved replacing the torque converter and clutches he said it did.
The best way to know would be to check it out in person. The guys have equiped you with lots of good info. The other possibility might be to have one of them go with you or check it out themselves if anyone's close. I'm very much not close by, so I'm no help there. I'm kinda wondering if the guy even knows how to change a tire or oil. Guessing not.
Sounds like a standard tranny rebuild to me based off what he spent. But I've never rebuilt mine (yet) so I don't know what it typically runs. I know in order to build a beefed up tranny he would have a lot more in it.
Well...I had a feeling this would happen. After my last email asking him about the 445 HP and that it would require alot of mods, this is his newest email.....
"Sorry, I have just traded my F-250 for a 1999 GMC extended cab.. Good luck on your search."
Oh well, I was getting a weird feeling from his emails anyway...since there was so much he didn't know.

That's a good idea. I too would be willing to help, but Indiana is a good clip away.
I was very leary when I bought mine. Just because I didn't know anything about diesels then. I took a buddy (diesel mechanic) with me and really relied on his thoughts.
Plus this guy sounds scatter brained...based off how he talks about his truck "turbo Powerstroke" "400+ hp"......sounds like he's trying to find someone to buy it based off his descriptions. It could be a trap! Or it could be a very nice truck, with a sly salesman.

DONT WORRY! I think it sounded shady as well. You will find a good one. They are out there.

Keep us updated on your searching.
I will keep ya'll updated on my searches... I am sure I'll have more posts with questions on the trucks I will be considering in the future.
There a 2 other's I have been looking at on the internet even while dealing with this one.
1 is VERY close to me...1997 F350 4x4 CC but is priced at $7300 - way out of my price range.
The other is in Texas (too far away to just look at it) 1997 F350 4x4 CC priced at $2500 and the guy says "Truck runs good but is rough as a cobb! Would make good farm truck or deer lease truck. 252-k miles".
I called and talked to the dealership owner on this one and he scared me off by what he said. I asked what he meant by "rough as a cobb"...he said that it was a farm truck and looks like everything on the farm ran into it. I then asked what the interior looked like and he said "I haven't got closer to the truck than 45 feet". I then asked how long he's had the truck and he said " a month, a year, I dunno". And this is the dealership owner!!!!
I would like to get a crew cab with 4x4 but would consider 4x2. With auto trans.
Right now it would be awesome to be able to trade my 96 Chevy for one but I might have to sell it. Then it would be about $5,000.
