Nothing against ladies out there. I know a lot of them who like to go fast. I think i was implying more towards the "old" in old lady. HaHa I know of men with "old" driving habits too. So it's a personality thing rather than gender.
I know you didn't mean any harm by it....I was just messing around with ya. I knew you meant "old lady"...I too hope it is an "old lady" those are the best vehicles to get usually....unless you got a hotroddin' granny out there, haha....I hope to be one of those someday, lol.
'94.5-'96 were rated 215HP @ 3000RPM. '97's were rated 225HP @ 3000RPM, only different is the Programing in the PCM.
I would be very leary of that K&N there notorius for not being oiled right and letting dust into the motor. pull the intake tubing off and wipe it with your finger, if a layer of dust is in there walk away. or atleast talk him way down on the price.
Looks like a pretty nice truck. The price seems OK. At worst you'll have to fix the fuel leaks the owner doesn't know are there. Maybe brakes. Fluid changes. Shocks. Off the K and N for something safer.
He said brakes were done 10k miles ago...now whether that just fronts or all-around, I haven't found out yet. I haven't asked about shocks either.
He says all fluid changes are done as per manual.
Now about the fuel leaks - I had no idea....do they all have this problem?
If so, is it all along the fuel lines or certain particular area's?
What area's should I look for a fuel leak?
What is the best filter to get for a PSD? And how much do they run?
It's a 444. If you convert to metric you get 7.275856416 liters. Round to 7.3.
Now convert 7.3 liters back to cubic inches and you get 445.45 cubic inches. Some round to 445 and others to 446. Either way it is wrong and it indicates ignorance.
By the way, "98.6" as an exact number comes that comes from "about 37C"
You'll smell fuel when you open the hood. They all leak at one time or another. Search the forum for fuel leaks. I use Wix or Napa filters on the 7.3. Motorcraft (racor) on the 6.0.
I seen that latest ad and was wondering....
How do you get 445 HP?
I would think it takes more than a K&N filter and exhaust
to bump it up to that kind of HP.
Do you have a detailed list of things that was done to
it to get that HP?
This is his response, last email...
"I have a buddy of mine that used to live in Arkansas. He had the same truck I do. The same exhaust, filter and chip. His truck was producing 445 hp. He moved and we lost touch. I am meeting someone in Muskogee Wednesday evening for a possible trade.
Let me know what you have in mind. Do some research on the internet or call a Ford dealer and they will tell you that the7.3 litre Powerstroke Turbo is the toughest diesel on the market."
Of course, I HAD previously asked him if his was "chipped" he said "To my knowledge not chipped".
This is the next email I sent him (THANKS guys - I copied and pasted some of your info that you gave me to put this email together) waiting to see what he says now...
That's why I asked, I am confused. I have done the research on the
7.3L PSD's........
1994.5-1996 were rated 215HP @ 3000RPM.
1997's were rated 225HP @ 3000RPM, only difference is the Programing in the PCM.
To get 445 HP is not out of the question, but takes A LOT more modding
than normal. Injectors, intercooler, custom burnt chip, plus a TON of
tranny upgrades.
7.3L is 444 cid
I hate to say it Killrail, but I think your dealing with a duffus.
The stock injectors will not flow enough fuel to get that kind of hp. IIRC i think 50-70 hp is the max gain you can get with the stock injectors. Pretty sure the cali models (split shot injectors) will not even come close to those numbers either.
Even with stage 2 injectors (190hp increase) it will not produce that kind of power without a good chip program, bigger HPOP, and larger turbo (probably should have head studs to be safe). If he did all of this, he would defintaley know.
Ask what kind of chip it is. Bet you he's got a superchip, edge, or hypertech. Not saying the truck isn't good. just be careful and maybe look at a few trucks before settling on one. Do you know if the truck has guages (tranny, exhaust, turbo)?
I was thinking the same thing about the "duffus" - I mean geez, I am a girl and I know what year all 5 of my vehicles are and what I have done to each.
He says the gauges are for transmission temp and turbo boost.
Now does the Turbo 7.3L PSD put out the same HP? How much does the Turbo bump the 7.3L up to in HP?
All Powerstrokes have turbos. The truck your looking at has a turbo from the factory and produces 225 hp with the turbo (215 possibly if its a '96).
the older IDI diesels are not turbo equipped. Not sure what kind of power they have. but you don't want the older model. Too much work to get them up to par with the 94.5-97 models.
It's good to know he has guages. Hopefully he paid attention to them.
You may want to ask if he installed a larger tranny cooler. The stocker is junk IMO. hopefully if it is stock he will say something about changing the tranny fluid with regularity. Staying on top of the fluid changes will really help on the longgevity of the tranny. If you ever look at the truck, make sure you pull the tranny dipstick and see if the fluid smells right and has correct color.
