dont really have the money for a new turbo or anything and i was lookin to eliminate my surge problem what is the absolute best wheel on the market for my truck?? i heard of whicked wheels but never really heard of anything else..
That's all there is. It's just the early 99 wheel, and all the fancy marketing names refer to the same one. Pick one that's in stock and at a decent price. Check with Clay at Riff-Raff Diesel...
i seen extreme diesel power website that they have one for like $75..soo far the cheapest i found are all the wheels pretty much all the same?? or is there different ones..and is it worth putting a new wheel in?? like will i notice any difference at all?? http://www.xtremediesel.com/product-...px?product=260
http://www.xtremediesel.com/product-...uct=260..thats what i found clay has his listed at $99...willl i notice a difference at all?? it surges when i got my superchips turned on hi-performace setting when i'm on the throttle real hard...
Joe is right. I contacted them before I was given mine, and they weren't expecting a delivery for almost a month. I have some good connections myself, and they're not the easiest things to get a hold of sometimes.
As far as the surge...it takes care of a lot of peoples surge issues, but it wont eliminate the worst cases. No performance gains, just eliminates surge and lets out a heck of a nice whistle...
You won't notice any performance difference it will eliminate the sure that happens from time to time. I installed on this past August and the biggest that I noticed is that it whistles more especially with having stacks on my truck. I noticed how pronounced it was last week when my brother borrowed my truck and I heard him drive off. Turns some heads for sure.
Now can somebody give a really clear answer about real life difference between compressor wheels?
I checked that all compressor wheels for 7.3 are interchangeable for 1994-2003. The only reported difference I see repeated several times is, that wicked wheel gets rid of the surge.
Than I found a post from guy who put his truck on dyno and after replacing stock wheel with wicked one his HP drop by 12.
I know 12 hp might be the test error, but makes you thinking, doesn't it?
I have early 99 model that originally has wicked wheel and I was satisfied with it, but than have no comparison. Now the wheel got blown by the dealer (I made a topic about incident) and I have to get a new one.
Bottom line, the wicked wheel run for close to $100, while late 99 wheels are on ebay for $35. I drive mostly freeways and power surge is not really my concern.

A real clear answer? the "wicked wheel" design wheel actually flows a bit less air than the factory wheel, that is how it eliminates the surge. The only other thing you can do to help eliminate surge is to get a ported compressor housing, that is why you dont really have that issue on most aftermarket turbos, because they come standard with ported housings.
ok and is the upgrade worth the $75?? will i notice any performance difference?
It will make a huge difference.
My turbo would surge on stock tune, pulling the trailer.
The wicked wheel completely eliminated the surge when towing.
I can MAKE it surge, but the EGT's spike to 1400+. So for all practical purposes the WW will "cure" your surging.

Well said Dan, its not really about what you performance you can gain above stock in terms of airflow, its about keeping the performance of the turbo that you would be losing otherwise. Kinda of like purposely taking one step back to take 2 steps forward.
