Forged Rods vs PMR's

I know this has been covered quite a few times here, and believe me I'm not trying to start an arguement. It's just that I stumbled on this article by accident and found it an interesting read. It goes agianst everything that we've ever thought about PMR's. I have to admit that I don't understand the technical info that's given here, but I did understand the message. Just thought I'd pass it along.

I can't say that I'm all that surprized. We saw engines dropping left & right last year, and there didn't seem to be a correlation to PMRs. Both forged and PMRs were failing.

Very interesting read, even though I'm not quite sure what it all meant. Basically our PMR's are just as good as forged rods?

Forged rods are far more superior than the PMR's but like Joe said, we had a quite a few of both rods motors fail last year. Hey Chris, we both have PMR's.

We didn't do 'em today. I went to a mod party today, but I don't want to put these in until I have the tuning issue worked out. Tony is still busy with his daughter, so I've been leaving him alone. I'm going to call him Monday to see if we can hook up to get something on my chip so I can get 'em in. I'm pretty antsy...

They kept talking in that article about how great the PMR's are in the 6.0L, but fail to mention why they hold up compared to the PMR's in the 7.3L. Anyone got a pic of a 6.0L PMR next to a 7.3L PMR? A side by side picture will tell the whole story.

IIRC, the reason the PMR's were crappy on the 7.3's was due to them using the same form for both forged and PMR. The PMR's weren't reinforced in the correct spots so they were actually weaker then the forged rods. Thats why they hold up just fine in the 6.0's, they had the correct design.

I copied this from the article and it explains how they are different, but a picture would be great if anyone has one they could show us.

"The connecting rod for the 7.3L engine is quite different from that for the 6.0L diesel. The 7.3 rod has a straight split on the big end while the 6.0L rod features an angle split On the small end, the 6.0L rod features teepee geometry to provide a larger bearings surface to absorb the high pressures on the underside of the piston pin. The material is a cuprous iron alloy with high carbon and a manganese sulfide additive. Copper content is approximately 3 percent."
